SBKR Scotland at the 48th British Open Kyokushin Karate Championship

Five students from SBKR Kyokushin Karate Fernando Dojo, Scotland, proudly represented their dojo at the 48th British Open Kyokushin Karate Championship, held in Crawley, England, on 3rd October 2026.

This prestigious international event brought together approximately 300 competitors from 24 countries, making it a fantastic opportunity for our students to test their skills against high-level opposition.

Our students competed in the following categories:

Shawn Findlay and Cody Clayton – Junior Boys, 14–15 Years

Rehan Fernando and Cameron Skimins – Men’s Novice Middleweight

Sathmi Fernando – Women’s Open Lightweight

Outstanding Achievement – Rehan Fernando

Rehan Fernando delivered an outstanding performance in the Men’s Novice Middleweight category. He won four fights against tough opponents to secure 1st Place at this prestigious international championship. His determination, fighting spirit and dedication to training made us incredibly proud.

Strong Performance – Sathmi Fernando

Sathmi Fernando fought bravely in the Women’s Open Lightweight category, facing a strong opponent who was the previous year’s European Lightweight Champion. Sathmi gave an excellent account of herself, demonstrating courage, determination and true Kyokushin spirit before losing in the second round. We are extremely proud of her performance.

Congratulations to Morgan Armstrong from SBKR Birmingham Dojo, who achieved an excellent 3rd Place in the Cadet Lightweight category.

Shihan Prasanna Fernando (6th Dan) attended the championship as the official coach, supporting and guiding our competitors throughout the event.

On behalf of SBKR, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the British Kyokushinkai Organising Committee, all judges and referees, and the dedicated volunteers whose hard work and commitment contributed to the success of this fantastic event.

We are proud of all our students who represented SBKR and Scotland with courage, discipline and true Kyokushin spirit.

Congratulations to all the competitors!

SBKR Scotland – Proud to Represent Scotland!
