2024 Japan Karate Tour

On the special invitation of Shihan Satoshi Yui from Japan, Shihan Prasanna Fernando along with his students Sensei Prithish Mukherjee (SBKR branch chief of West Bengal, India) and Rehan Fernando participated in the International seminar held on 29th September in Tokyo So-Honbu. The specialty of this training was that Sosai Oyama introduced Kyokushin Karate in 1964 at his World Karate Headquarters (So-Honbu) This training was held under the supervision of one of Oyama Sosai’s most special students, Shihan Satoshi Yui(7th Dan). Shihan Yui was one of the instructors who taught Honbu-Dojo during Sosai Oyama’s time and was appointed by Sosai to train Uchi-deshi (special students undergoing residential training). This training which lasted for 4 hours was very intense. Here, two hours were spent on Kihon training, and Shihan Yui did the same training as Masutatsu Oyama had learned during his time. Then there was training for Ido, Kata and Kumite.

On 30 September, Sensei Mukherjee and Shihan’s family joined Shihan Fernando to visit Sosai Oyama’s grave in Gokokuji cemetery in Tokyo.

On the 1st and 2nd, Shihan, Sensei Mukherjee, and Rehan took the opportunity to train under the Saiko Shihan Ryu Serizawa (7th Dan) at Seikujuku Honbu located in Shimizu City, Shizuoka ken. The training of Shihan Serizawa, a very knowledgeable teacher, was very valuable.

On the 5th of October, Shihan Fernando finished his last training of this tour with his friend Shihan Akira Ishikawa(5th Dan) at his Ishikawa dojo located in Nagoya.

This was Sensei Mukherjee’s first visit to Japan from India and he completed his training with great enthusiasm and there is no doubt that he will share the wealth of knowledge he has acquired with his students and instructors in India. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the top-ranked teachers in Japan, Shihan Satoshi Yui, Shihan Ryu Serizawa, and Shihan Akira Ishikawa. It is because they taught us from the heart, and because of the humanity they reflected in it.

Taking a break from training, Hakone and Osaka sightseeing was an opportunity to see the beauty of Japan and taste delicious food and also ‘’The Onsen’’, a natural hot spring bath that is geothermally heated underground by the volcanic activity of the land was very healing to take a bath.

We look forward to our next trip to Japan next year.
